Georgia Teacher Certification Requirements

To become a teacher in Georgia, you must complete the follow steps:

Get Your Degree

  • The minimum degree requirement for all Georgia professional certificates is a bachelor’s degree.
  • If you have a bachelor’s degree but your major was not in Education, there is an alternative pathway available.

Student Teaching Experience

  • Candidates must participate in a student teaching experience in an approved primary or secondary school.

  • All educators must pass the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE).
  • The certification tests an aspiring teacher must pass depend on their chosen grade level and certification field.

Apply for Certification

  • First-time teachers in Georgia receive an induction certificate
  • To receive this certification, you must apply for a job at a Georgia-based school. After being hired, your new employer will apply for the certificate from GaPSC on your behalf.

  • You can apply for jobs directly to school districts since school districts in Georgia have their own websites and job postings.
  • You should also utilize online job search resources.
