Everything you need to know about MTLE Certification Exams

What is a MTLE exam?

The MTLE, or Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examinations, are the certification exams for Minnesota teachers. All public school teachers are required to be certified prior to teaching.

What Minnesota teacher certification exams do I need to take?

All public school teachers in Minnesota must take the MTLE at some point. The type of MTLE test that teachers are required to take depends on the tier of their license. The Minnesota teacher licensure system has four tiers, with most teachers holding a Tier 3 or Tier 4 license.

How do I register for my MLTE exam?

You can register for your MTLE exam on the MTLE website. First step is to create or login to your account.

What's a passing score for the MTLE certification exams?

The passing score for each exam varies. Most tests require a score of 240 out of 300. You can check your specific test requirement on the MTLE testing website.

What happens if I fail my MTLE exam?

If you fail an MTLE exam, you have the option to retake the exam again. You must wait 30-45 days (depending on the exam) before reattempting the exam.

How much does a MTLE exam cost?

There are many different MTLE exams, each made up of subtests. The cost varies based on how many subtests you plan to take. Most tests include two subtests that cost $47.50 each. In that case, the test total would be $95.00.
