What is the NYSTCE test?

The New York State Teacher Certification Examinations (NYSTCE) are exam you must take to become a certified teacher in the state of New York. The NYSTCE are criterion-referenced, objective-based tests designed to measure a candidate’s knowledge and skills in relation to an established standard rather than in relation to the performance of other candidates

What NYSTCE teacher certification exams do I need to take?

If you are receiving your teacher certification in New York for the first time, you will need to pass the Educating All Students (EAS) test and then pass your Content Specialty Test(s) (CST) in your area of certification. Check the NYSTCE website for a list of certifications and the required exams for those certifications.

What’s a passing score for the NYSTCE certification exams?

The passing score for most NYSTCE exam is a 520. However, we recommend always checking the official website to make sure you know the passing score of your specific exam.

Can I retake my NYSTCE exam?

Yes! You can retake your NYSTCE exam, however, you must wait between 30-60 days (depending on your exam) to retake the exam. Check the NYSTCE test policies for your exam to learn more about retaking the exam.

How much does a NYSTCE exam cost?

NYSTCE exam costs range from $54 – $337 depending on the type of exam you are taking. Most “Content Specialty Tests” cost $122. Check the NYSTCE test page to find the cost of your exam.
