FTCE stands for Florida Teacher Certification Examinations. These exams test the skills, content knowledge, and pedagogical knowledge that are required to be a public school teacher in Florida. All the exams include multiple-choice questions, but some also have an essay portion. Learn more about what type of questions are on the FTCE exams here. If your exam includes an essay, take a look at 240 Tutoring’s guidance for constructed-response questions.
Once you have submitted your application for certification, the Bureau of Educator Certification will tell you exactly which exams to take. Click here to learn more about the exam you need to take.
Anyone who wants to be a teacher in Florida needs to take at least one of these exams. All future teachers must take the General Knowledge (GK) exam and the Professional Education Test or demonstrate general knowledge and professional preparation by other means. You’ll also need to take at least one other exam, depending on the grade level and content you plan to teach.
FTCE testing sites are located throughout Florida and nationwide. Find a location near you here.
If you do not pass your exam, or a subtest within your exam, you must wait 31 days before you can retake the exam. Note: if you take an exam with multiple subtests you only need to retake the subtest(s) that you did not pass. You must re-register and there will be a retake fee for each exam. There is no limit to the amount of times you can retake an exam. Learn more here.
