Scoring

How do I pass the Praxis® Core?

To pass the Praxis® Core, you must first understand what is on the exam and what you will be expected to know. The best way is to review the 240 Tutoring test breakdown materials and practice questions. Once you identify areas of weakness, you can begin targeting those areas with instructional content and practice questions.

Do I get a break during the Praxis® Core Writing Exam?

This test does not include a scheduled break. If you choose to take an unscheduled break, your test clock will not stop, so it’s recommended that you use the restroom before or after your test.  Long breaks are documented by test administrators, so do not take more than 5 to 10 minutes.

How is the Praxis®️ Core Writing CRQ scored?

The writing prompts of the Praxis®️ Core are scored on a scale from 1 to 6. The essay is scored holistically, meaning that the entire essay is scored as a whole, and is not scored in parts.

Generally, an essay will earn a passing score if it: is organized, incorporates information from provided sources in the arguments, displays competent use of the English language, is generally free from grammatical and spelling errors, and adequately addresses the prompt

How long will the Praxis® Core Writing test take me?

The full test is 1 hour and 40 minutes, but expect to be at the testing site longer. Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before your appointment time to get checked in.
