How many questions are on the CORE Subjects EC-6?

So, how many questions will you be given on the TExES Core Subjects EC-6 exam? We’ll take a look at the total number of questions and break down the questions for all five subtests.

On the TExES Core Subjects EC-6, there are a total of 267 selected-response questions. These questions are split into five subtests: English Language Arts and Reading & the Science of Teaching Reading; Mathematics; Social Studies; Science; and Fine Arts, Health, and Physical Education.

In January 2021, the TExES Core Subjects EC-6 exam will change. The update will include different question formats and will also remove some content from the current ELAR subtest. That content will instead be included in the new Science of Teaching Reading exam and will be a test requirement in addition to the TExES Core Subjects EC-6. Changes to the exams can be monitored on TEA’s website.

What kinds of questions are on the CORE Subjects EC-6?

Great news if you like multiple-choice questions! The TExES Core Subjects EC-6 contains only selected-response questions (for now, at least).

When answering selected-response questions, make sure to carefully read the information and eliminate any obviously incorrect answers. To answer some questions you might simply have to recall information. For others, you might need to analyze them and think critically.

Changes are expected in January 2021 that will include new constructed-response questions to the TExES Core Subjects EC-6 (391) exam. You have until December 31, 2020, to take the current version of the exam.
