How Much Does It Cost To Take The OAE?

Blackboard Teaching vectors

The OAE exams are required for new teacher candidates in the state of Ohio. The following article will discuss OAE costs. We will answer your questions about the cost of different exams and what happens if you fail an OAE test. We will walk you through the retake policies and make sure that you know what to do in even the unforeseen situations.

Ready? Let’s get started!

How much does it cost to take an OAE exam?

In general, the cost to take an OAE exam is $105. An exception is the Foundations of Reading test (090), which is required for all early and middle childhood licenses and costs $139. The official cost of each OAE exam can be found on the Ohio Assessments for Educators website. You must pay the test fee during the registration process.

How many attempts do you get to pass an OAE test?

You get unlimited attempts to pass an OAE test. While you may retake the exam as many times as you need to pass, you will have to wait until the next assessment window (a minimum of 30 days), register, and pay the full test fee each time you retake an exam.

What happens if you fail an OAE test?

It’s OK if you fail an OAE test. In fact, you can retake it as many times as you want, as long as you register again and pay another test fee. There is also a mandatory waiting period (minimum 30 days) before retakes are allowed. You cannot schedule the same test multiple times during a single assessment testing window. You can use the waiting period to reevaluate your strengths and weaknesses on the content and increase your study time before retaking the test. If you haven’t already tried 240 Tutoring’s study guides, this would be a good time!

Waiting times for each exam can be found at the Ohio Assessments website. Select your exam from the drop-down menu to see the retake policy.

Are there any other costs associated with taking an OAE test?

OAE test fees are paid online during registration with a credit or debit card (Visa or MasterCard only). Visit the Ohio Assessments for Educators website for procedures to pay the test fee by check. The test fee includes all the costs associated with the exam, testing center, and scoring. Some sections of the exam may permit a graphing calculator, which could be an extra cost if you need to purchase one. In the case of a retake or missed test appointment, the test-taker will be responsible for paying the full test fees again.
