How Many Questions Are on the CORE Subjects EC-6?

So, how many questions will you be given on the TExES Core Subjects EC-6 exam? We’ll take a look at the total number of questions and show you where to find a breakdown of the questions for all five subject exams.

On the TExES Core Subjects EC-6, there are a total of 210 selected-response questions. These questions are split into five subject exams: English Language Arts and Reading; Mathematics; Social Studies; Science; and Fine Arts, Health, and Physical Education.

In January 2021, the TExES Core Subjects EC-6 exam was changed from the old Core Subjects EC–6 (291) version. The update included different question formats and removed some content from the old ELAR subtest. That content is included in the new Science of Teaching Reading exam, which is now a test requirement in addition to the TExES Core Subjects EC-6 (391). Information about the changes to the exam can be found on TEA’s website.

What Kinds of Questions Are on the CORE Subjects EC-6?

Great news if you like multiple-choice questions! The TExES Core Subjects EC-6 contains only selected-response questions.

When answering selected-response questions, make sure to carefully read the information and eliminate any obviously incorrect answers. To answer some questions, you might simply have to recall information. For others, you might need to analyze them and think critically.
