How to use the Praxis Social Studies practice tests to study for your exam
The Praxis is an exam series developed by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). Praxis is used by teacher licensing boards across the country to test the academic skills and content knowledge required of new teacher candidates. Using practice tests to prepare for the exam is a great way to identify your strengths and weaknesses, and to help you develop an effective study plan.
Here are a few ways to to get the most out of a practice test:
Find high-quality practice tests
Start by looking for practice tests that are specifically designed for and closely aligned to the Praxis exam you plan to take. At 240 Tutoring, we make every effort to align practice tests and study material to the most recent version of the exam.
Taking the Praxis Social Studies practice test
Try to simulate the test day environment to get the most accurate assessment of your starting point. Take the practice test in a quiet environment, without any distractions. Try to simulate the actual testing conditions as closely as possible, including the time limit.
Analyze your results
Once you have completed the practice test, review your results carefully. Identify the areas where you performed well and the areas where you need to improve. We provide a graded rubric at the end of every practice test along with a report of where you performed well and where you need improvement.
Develop a study plan
Use your practice test results to develop a study plan that focuses on the content areas where you need the most improvement. Create a consistent practice schedule with dedicated time to study for your exams.
Study content areas where you are weakest
When studying, focus on the content areas that you struggled with the most during the practice test AND will be covered significantly on the Praxis exam. This method will keep your time and effort spent on the content areas most likely to improve your score. Take an additional practice test
After you have followed the study guide and feel prepared, take an additional practice exam to evaluate your progress. Ensure you don’t take the same practice test and that the questions vary from your first attempt.
