What are the Indiana CORE exams?

The Indiana CORE exams are a group of assessments that determine whether or not a candidate has the knowledge and skills needed to effectively teach students in Indiana public schools. The tests are either pedagogical (developmental) or content-based.

The Indiana CORE exams are created and administered by Pearson Education.

Who takes an Indiana CORE exam?

There are three main groups of candidates who may need to take an Indiana CORE exam:

  1. candidates entering a teacher preparation program
  2. candidates wishing to obtain an instructional license
  3. candidates wanting to add additional certifications to their licenses

When and where do I take an Indiana CORE exam? 

Most CORE exams are offered year-round at various times and locations. If you are taking the CORE Academic Skills Assessment (CASA), you will have to take it in Indiana. Developmental and content area assessments are offered nationwide.

How are Indiana Core exams structured?

What do I need to bring to the test center? 

You have to bring one current, government-issued identification (with your photograph and signature) in English. Make sure your name on your identification matches the name in which you registered.

How long are the Indiana CORE exams?

The test lengths vary but range between 45 and 135 minutes. Each test has a 15-minute tutorial, but this time isn’t counted as part of your testing time.

What are the testing policies for the Indiana CORE exams?

The testing policies vary for each exam. Make sure you take a look at your exam’s unique testing policies before your testing day.

How are the Indiana CORE exams scored?

Each test or subtest is scored on a scale from 100 to 300, with a passing score of 220.
