MTTC Mathematics (Secondary) (022)

The MTTC Mathematics (Secondary) (022) exam is the secondary level mathematics exam for teachers in the state of Michigan. The MTTC Mathematics (Secondary) (022) exam will evaluate a test-taker’s knowledge of algebra, patterns, measurement, geometry, statistics, and probability. The test will engage test-takers on the level they would be qualified to teach- most questions will be at the high school level. Because of the questions will assess an individual’s knowledge in areas, such as algebra 2, advance geometry, calculus, and statistics, test-takers have found the exam to be difficult. The exam can cover a large amount of difficult material. To be successful on the exam an individual should be up-to-date on mathematical concepts at the secondary level.

MTTC Mathematics (Secondary) (022) Testing Tips

The MTTC Mathematics (Secondary) (022) exam can be difficult for test-takers due to the advanced concepts found on the exam. It is imperative to be up-to-date on your mathematical knowledge to be successful on the exam. A great way to prepare is to work through practice questions; mathematics is a skill and improves with practice.

Many test-takers are intimidated by the advanced nature of the questions on the exam. A test-taker does not have to be strong in all mathematical areas to pass. Many test-takers are not strong in calculus or statistics, but are still able to pass the exam because those areas represent a small portion of the exam. However, a strong knowledge in algebra, geometry, and number concepts is important in passing the exam as most questions will require knowledge in these areas.

Each question is worth the same number of points, so treat each question with equal care. Try to work difficult questions backwards; if you do not know the correct answer, eliminate obviously incorrect answers. This strategy can be especially useful with mathematics exams because in some instances, a test-taker can work the problem backwards, plugging in each answer choice to see if it is the correct choice.

Above all, do not become discouraged during the exam. The goal is a passing score, not a perfect score. Keeping a positive attitude before and during the exam is imperative for success. In the words of Henry Ford, “whether you think you can, or that you can’t, you are usually right.”
